Small Nisse (Scandinavian Christmas Elf)

With Christmas just around the corner, Swedish stores and homes are full of Christmas elves. These cute little elves (Tomtarna in swedish) are protectors of the home and look after the kids (that's in folklore, because in reality... it's the children who look after them, dragging them along as they play through the house).

In any case, a tomte is often depicted as a small, elderly man with a long beard.

Today, these famous elves are very much associated with Christmas, so naturally we've made some of them

This activity helps children to develop fine motor skills by knotting wool around a circle (made of metal, wood or even cardboard).
