A fun and creative activity to do with kids: a funny frog whose tongue pops out when you blow through a straw… to catch little magnetic flies!

A perfect activity for spring or summer, combining craft and play.
Materials
1 paper plate
Green and red paint (ref)
Green and red A4 paper
1 paper straw
1 small magnet (9mm diameter; ref)
Glue (ref)
Scissors
Tape
Some metal paper clips
Laminator (optional but recommended)
Step-by-step
Paint the inside red with a green outline to represent the mouth.
Paint the outside of the plate green.
Once dry, fold the plate in half, with the red side on the inside.
Cut a 6 cm wide strip of red paper from an A4 sheet.
Fold it lengthwise. Glue a small magnet to one end of the tongue and attach a straw to the other end. Then, glue the sides together to form a tube.
Roll the tongue up on itself.
Make a small hole in the center of the folded plate to thread the straw through and place the tongue inside the mouth.
When the child blows into the straw, the tongue unrolls just like a real frog’s!
Draw two big eyes on green paper, cut them out, and glue them onto the top of the frog.
Prepare the flies. Draw or print out small flies. Laminate them before cutting them out to make them sturdier. On the back of each fly, tape a small piece of metal, such as a piece of a paper clip.
Time to play!
All that’s left to do is blow through the straw to extend the tongue and catch the magnetic flies.
A simple, fun activity that’s sure to bring lots of laughter for the kids!
And without a magnet... is that possible?
The magnetic part is fun for kids, but it’s not required! This frog can be made without a magnet, and the child will extend the frog’s tongue without catching a fly. And you know what... well, it’s still super fun!
