A moment to slow down. A moment to focus. A gentle moment to create. A moment to learn.
This activity invites children to be patient and precise to create a soft snowflake to hang. By following the lines and pricking the needle into the cardboard, children develop their fine motor skills, their hand-eye coordination and exercise concentration.
It's also a great opportunity to discover symmetry and geometric shapes.
Materials:
Step-by-step :
Cut a circle from cardboard (diameter approx. 10 cm). Draw a 6-pointed star (leave about 1 cm of cardboard at the end of each point).
Add two side branches on each side of your 6 branches. They should end at the same distance as the main branch. Make a dot at the end of each one.
Optional: add a small star in the center.
Add a dot at each intersection of the three terminal branches and one at the center of the flake.
With your needle, pierce a hole at each point.
Pass the cotton thread in the color of your choice to sew your snowflake.
Tie a knot at the backto keep the thread tight.
lue the felt to the back of the circle. (You can slip a wool thread between the cardboard and the felt if you want to create a suspension).
Cut out the felt to finalize your snowflake.
