Toilet Paper Roll Turtle Craft: an easy recycled DIY

Looking for a fun DIY for kids that's easy, cheap, and eco-friendly? This adorable toilet paper roll craft is the perfect summer activity!
After a painting session with my daughter, there was still plenty of green paint left on her palette. Instead of letting it go to waste, we turned it into something magical: Marlo, the little water turtle!
This recycled craft is a wonderful reminder that everyday materials can become something magical with a little creativity. It's also a great opportunity to teach children about reusing and recycling while having fun together.
Materials
Step-by-step
1. Create the shell
Flatten one toilet paper roll.
Draw the turtle shell by adding:
one rounded notch for the head
four rounded notches for the legs
Cut out the shell.

2. Draw the missing body parts
Using one or two more toilet paper rolls, draw:
the head
four legs
the tail
Cut out each piece.

3. Paint
Paint all the pieces.
On each side of the head, draw the eyes with a black marke
Feel free to mix several shades of green to add a bit of depth and create a more natural look—plus, it's really fun for kids to experiment with colors!
4. Add the details
Once the paint has dried, use gold paint to decorate the top of the shell and create beautiful turtle scales.
Feel free to personalize your turtle with dots, stripes, glitter, or any colors you like.
5. Assemble
Slide the head, legs, and tail into the notches in the shell.
If needed, add a small drop of glue to keep everything securely in place.
