When spring returns, gardens gradually come alive with color, flowers… and fluttering little butterflies.
To celebrate this lovely season, we’ve created delicate paper butterflies—light as air and very easy to make with the kids. It’s a sweet, creative activity that requires few materials.
These little butterflies can then be used to decorate a bedroom, a seasonal table, a window, or even accompany a spring bouquet.

Materials
Step-by-step
1. Prepare the shapes by cutting out:
- a 14-cm square of paper
- a circle with a diameter of 10 cm
2. Stick the circle to one corner of the square to form the complete shape of the butterfly.
The square will form the top wings, and the circle will form the bottom wings.
3. Fold the entire shape like an accordion, from top to bottom.
4. Place the wire in the center of the accordion, then tie it.
Next, twist the ends of the wire to form the butterfly’s antennae.
5. Unfold on each side to reveal the butterfly's wings.
And there you go… a pretty little butterfly ready to flutter around the house
Why this activity?
This creative activity helps develop:
fine motor skills through accordion folding
creativity through the choice of paper and colors
patience and precision
It’s also a perfect spring activity for talking about nature and insects.
