Autumn DIY - Make Mushrooms from Aluminum Foil
Autumn is arriving, with its beautiful colorful leaves, huge diversity of mushrooms and the desire to create a cosy decorations inspired by nature.
Today, we’re making cute aluminum foil mushrooms! It’s a simple and fun craft to do with the kids.
The idea is simple: crumple and shape a few pieces of aluminum foil, cover them with masking tape, and then just add a touch of paint to turn them into little colorful mushrooms.
Once they're finished, they can be used as part of a small Autumn-themed play, to decorate the house, or even placed in a jar to create a little enchanted forest world.
Materials:
Aluminium foil
Masking tape
Paint in various colors

Step-by-step:
Shape the mushrooms
Cut off several pieces of aluminum foil.
Crumple them up, then shape them with your hands to create the shape of your mushroom: start by forming the stem, then shape the cap.

Feel free to vary the shapes and sizes. Some mushrooms may be tall and thin, while others may be small and large, with a round, flat, or slightly irregular cap.
Cover with masking tape
Once you have fix the shape, cover the aluminum foil with masking tape.
The tape helps maintain the mushroom's shape and it creates a surface which is easier to paint.

Now it's time to bring the mushrooms to life with color!
Paint the stem and the cap.

Red, orange, yellow, brown… you can paint by inspiring yourself from the colors of an autumn forest or, on the contrary, invent imaginary mushrooms.
Let dry
Once the mushrooms dry, they are ready to set off on an adventure.
We arranged our mushrooms amongst the leaves, stones, woods and plants to create a miniature autumnal forest, before using them as a little decoration at home by creating a jar to represent a small forest ecosyste
This glass jar contains our aluminium mushrooms, set amongst a few natural items collected in the forest, and a small string of fairy lights to give the whole thing a magical feel.
Why do we love this activity?
This autumn activity for children requires very few materials and turns something as ordinary as a sheet of aluminium foil into a lovely little decorative item.
Children can model, crush and paint it in whatever colours they like. It’s a great activity for developing fine motor skills, requiring children to concentrate as they try to reproduce the shape of mushrooms
It’s also a lovely way to extend a walk in the woods: observing the shapes and colours of mushrooms outside, then coming home to create their own.
